How the GMP figure is worked out
GMP is the premium unofficial dealers quote for an IPO’s shares before they list. It is not published by any exchange or regulator, so we read it from several independent trackers and show the median of their latest readings for the day: the middle value, so one tracker with an unusual number cannot pull the figure on its own. With three or more trackers, a reading more than 10% of the issue price away from the median is flagged and checked.
GMP % is the GMP divided by the issue price (the top of the price band until the final price is fixed). A GMP older than the site’s freshness limit is marked as stale. The GMP chart on each IPO keeps one figure per day, so you can see how the premium moved.
Listing gain and GMP accuracy
Listing gain is the listing-day opening price minus the issue price, as a percentage of the issue price. On GMP vs listing gain we compare it with the final GMP % before listing: the gap, in percentage points, shows how close the grey market came. The summary figures there are worked out from every listed IPO that had a GMP.
Corrections and editorial checks
Figures from exchanges overwrite figures from other sources; other sources only fill gaps. When an editor corrects a figure by hand, it is locked so later automatic updates cannot overwrite it. If you spot something wrong, tell us.
